PRE-PLANNING; IT’S SO MUCH EASIER IF YOUR LOVED ONE TELLS YOU THEIR WISHES

Kathie Warta and her family were with their mom. They knew she had a good life and she was surrounded by people who loved her dearly. So dearly, Kathie has a bit of regret that they did not discuss what her mom would have wanted. She wanted to do everything her faithful mom would have wanted. She wished she discussed these desires when her mom was most alert. She had full arrangements and wonderful services. It’s just a little voice and reminder to Kathie to quietly advise friends and family to have the discussions that help you know for sure that you’re including everything your loved one wanted. From clothing, to jewelry, to readings, songs, flowers, anything and everything. Suddenly, you experience the ‘trauma of loss’, and in only a few short days, you have big decisions, little decisions, detailed decisions, so many decisions to make. A discussion and some plans written down could reduce the burden and doubts so much.

The Funeral Directors and Staff at Gibbons Family Funeral Home makes this process available and as simple as possible. Noting everything on paper is a huge help to loved ones who must finalize arrangements, often during an emotionally difficult time. “Having things officially written down removes any doubt” says Michael Gibbons, adding, “families feel great relief in knowing exactly what their loved one wished”.

Even an option to pre-pay through a separate, independent financial instrument is available. This policy is transferable if locations or circumstances change. Financial Planning professionals have been adding this to client portfolios for many years to counteract inflation and rising costs.

Gibbons Family Funeral Home is here 24/7/365 to serve you for Pre-Planning, At-Need, or simply answer any questions you have, with no obligation.
For any questions you may have about At-need services or pre-planning, don’t hesitate to contact us. 773-777-3944 or http://www.gffh.com

ONCE A MARINE, YOU LIVE AND DIE A MARINE. MY DAD DIED AS A VERY PROUD MARINE

Mr. Murphy had been a Veteran for 50 years by the time he passed away at age 74. Like many veterans, he didn’t talk often about his service, but often did share how proud he was of serving his country. His time in the US Marine Corps earned him the benefits every Veteran is entitled to. Like many families, the Murphy’s were not aware of the benefits he earned and qualified for. It simply didn’t come up until Michael Gibbons at Gibbons Family Funeral Home in Chicago asked daughter Barbara, if her father had served. “Once Michael was aware my father served in the Marine Corps, the Gibbons took care of everything, letting us know what to bring in (discharge papers; DD-214) “

“It was a wonderful and pleasant thing to see my father honored for his service. We were so happy to be fully informed of what benefits he had earned those many years ago. We’re so grateful Michael asked us”, said Barbara, adding ” There was an amazing moment during the service, where 2 young Marines were ceremonially removing and folding the American Flag. From my perspective and vantage point, it appeared the flag was hovering above my father. It took my breath away, and made me appreciate him even more.”

A grateful nation thanks you for your service. A grateful family knows what these benefits mean to Veterans and Familes. A grateful and professional Funeral Director makes sure families are aware of all the benefits their loved one earned.

Veterans are entitled to many services including burial at no charge at a National Cemetery like the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. Remembering the First Responders; our Heroes

There’s a very good reason the families of Police Officers, Firefighters, Municipal workers and the hard-working class of the northwest side of Chicago choose Gibbons Family Funeral Home to help them with their funeral arrangements more often than not. It feels right. The place. The people and the tradition of helping send our heroes home in a way that befits their service to the world and our communities.

These services include a bit more ceremony than some others to allow the rank-and-file friends who are referred to, and treated as, “family”, to pay their final respects. It’s important that a funeral home understands the ceremony and tradition. The Gibbons do. When a member of the first responder family passes, on duty or off, retired or not, a huge debt of gratitude is in order. There are official rites, religious rites and nearly always very large crowds paying respects to a fallen member of the extended fellow officer and servant family of these heroes.

“If the funeral home was not good at accommodating these services, word would get around quickly” chuckled Fr. John McNalis, Asst. Chaplin for the Chicago Fire Department. He adds,  “The Gibbons Family is outstanding, and that word that’s gotten around. They take care of a lot of our members”. Our heroic First Responders and Veterans deserve the special treatment they’ve earned with their public service.

“My family is honored and fully understands the privilege of taking care of first responder families”,  says Michael Gibbons, adding “We want them to know and feel like we will always be here for them”.

When you need our home, it is your home.

For most people answering their door or their phone, they usually say “Hello”. Michael Gibbons experience was to say “Gibbons Family Funeral Home, How may we help you?” You see, for him, the Funeral Home was his home, where he lived above the chapel where families were welcomed to share the Gibbons Family Home.

Michael’s father and Grandfather before him also called the Gibbons Family Funeral Home their home. In short, the families they hosted to host their families and friends were just like family to them. So, sharing this space in this special way is very normal to generations of Gibbons. Offering a comfortable and inviting place to receive their extended families and friends in respect of their loved ones is just what you do.   No detail is ever left to chance. Beauty, Comfort, Peace, it’s all there.

Katie Sweeney’s family understood, saying “When my grandma passed away, my mother told me we need to contact the Gibbons Family. We know them. We trust them.” Michael responded, “The Sweeney’s are special to us, as are all these wonderful families who place their trust in us at their most difficult moments.”

“Since 1935, the Gibbons Family has been taking care of your family”

Since 1935 the Gibbons Family has been there for our families in Chicago. Chicago became the destination for so many of the Irish Families arriving in America. When Grandpa Gibbons established the first location on the west-side of Chicago, it was a generations long commitment that the Gibbons Family would be comforting families for many years to come. That same pride for the city is felt today at Gibbons Family Funeral Home.

Tom and Rita Gibbons were the second generation to receive families at 5917 W. Irving Park Road. Today Michael and Kerry Gibbons are the 3rd Generation of the family to welcome your family when you need our assistance. The Gibbons continue to be very active and connected to the families, the parishes, the clubs and the neighborhoods. And when a neighbor passes away, the family comes together at Gibbons Family Funeral Home, where, as Rita promises, “come home to us and we’ll take good care of you”.

OUR PRECAUTIONS WITH THE COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS

Dear Family and Friends,
With the heightened awareness and concern over the COVID-19 Coronavirus, we have taken additional steps to prevent
its spread at Gibbons Family Funeral Home. We realize how important the visitation, memorial and funeral services are to
families and those who wish to comfort families, celebrate life and pay final respects. We have taken as many precautions
as we can to ensure the safety of those visiting us as we can.

Upon request, Gibbons Family Funeral Home can record and video stream visitation/memorial services, funeral masses
and cemetery services.
Here are some of the many precautions we have taken at a heightened level

• We are regularly disinfecting any door handles, knobs, push panels or other entry surfaces.
• We have ample supply and locations of disinfectant lotion at the entrance to our gathering spaces and chapels.
• We have provided ample space for “social-distancing” in any lines or seating space in our chapels.
• Every flat surface is being regularly addressed with disinfectant cleanser or polish throughout the day and evening.
• All of our furniture and chairs are wiped down continuously with anti-bacterial hygienic cleansers, mists or other treatments
to ensure disinfectant surfaces.
• Our staff is welcoming all of our families and guests with a non-physical contact gesture (this is a hard one but we
understand how important it is, and encourage everyone to do the same)
• We have advised our entire staff to immediately alert us if they feel symptomatic of this virus or any other, so they can
immediately recuse themselves from any contact.
• If any family or guests are feeling any symptoms, we know families will understand the need for them not to be in a
public space. We encourage you to go to our website http://www.gffh.com/old-obituaries/ or to our Facebook page
where nearly every obituary is posted https://www.facebook.com/gibbonsfamilyfuneralhome/ and take advantage
of the memorial tribute wall or leave a Facebook post with your message of comfort. Families will understand and
appreciate your comforting messages.

We are fully dedicated to taking care of each other during this especially difficult time in our communities. We fully
grasp the need for extra caution. If we can answer any questions or be of any additional help, please contact us at
http://www.gffh.com

Together we can comfort families and one another!
